We have all looked at horror at the number of e-mails in our inboxes after being out on Monday. The data deluge is real – the information overload is happening. Cisco estimates that by 2013 the amount of traffic on the Internet will reach 667 exabytes – a tenfold rate of growth for digital information every five years (Source: Economist Report "Data Data Everywhere).

Every day I wake up and ask, 'how can I flow data better, manage data better, analyze data better?' says Rollin Ford, CIO of Walmart (Source: Economist Report "Data Data Everywhere). Companies are looking to sift the wheat from the chaff and extricate the nugget of information that can help make faster, better decisions. And it is not just about information dashboards for the executive team or the board – but also providing the right information at the point where it can be used most effectively in the business process.

The enterprise strategy for business intelligence (BI) has to be pervasive – across the enterprise and embedded into business processes.
