Letter from the Editor: SAP HANA Application Cloud

Letter from the Editor: SAP HANA Application Cloud

The lead article in this issue of Business Process News @SCN points to some reactions of the SCN community, abuzz with news of the Smarter. Faster. Simpler. SAP Business Suite on SAP HANA.

Dennis Howlett speculates where SAP is going next, and he might express a consensus when he writes, "While SAP does not say so in so many words, the company will have the BusinessSuite running on HANA in cloud environments in the not too distant future."

Meanwhile, SAP HANA One puts our in-memory platform in the Cloud via Amazon Web Services (AWS). And more recently, SAP EPM OnDemand for Expense Insight, becomes the first SAP HANA One solution that you can launch from AWS Marketplace.

AWS evangelist Jeff Barr describes the advantages, "You don't have to spend a lot of money. You don't need to buy and install high-end hardware in your data center and you don't need to license SAP HANA. Instead, you can launch from the AWS Marketplace and pay for the hardware and the software on an hourly, pay-as-you-go basis."

Look for many more interesting solutions to come from the SAP HANA Application Cloud.

Sincerely,

Keith Elliott

Community Weighs in on SAP Business Suite on HANA

SAP recently announced availability of the SAP Business Suite, our software for core business operations, powered by our in-memory computing platform, SAP HANA. Read the blog post by SAP CTO Vishal Sikka and watch the overview video for details. It wasn't long before the key community members began to share their thoughts on the news. Read Leonardo Araujo's post about the business value, and Nathan Genez's thoughts around the future of SAP ERP on HANA. Finally, see how Richard Hirsch connects the dots in What Comes After Business Suite on HANA.

Integrating SAP and SuccessFactors Human Resources Applications

Read Integrate SAP and SuccessFactors in as Little as 5 Weeks by SAP's Paul Hopkins to get some basics on how and when to use the hybrid model of SAP ERP HCM for core human resources processes and SuccessFactors Business Execution Suite for talent management processes. Paul talks to Rainer Faulstich and Markus Trapp about the rapid deployment solution that supports this hybrid model. For a better understanding of how cloud software can be integrated with on-premise software, watch these two demos by SAP Mentor Ginger Gatling.

Does Analytics Make Us Smart or Stupid?

In this blog post, SAP's Ray Rivera examines analytics in the context of the work of media theorist Marshall McLuhan. To see more analytics content, visit the Business Intelligence space, or find content tagged with analytics, such as this blog post on SAP Cloud Analytics by Jean-Bernard Rolland.

Embracing China: SCN Looks East with Shanghai Video, Blog It Forward

See what SAP TechEd was like in Shanghai in November: watch the 5-minute video by Jason Cao and read the blog post by Sylvana Chang, both members of the SCN team. SAP's Shengtao Tan starts the eastward expansion of the Blog It Forward initiative in his Chinese blog post (see a Google translation here).
